Cheyenne Smith booted in a golden goal two and a half minutes into overtime as the Sharks edged the Silverswords 3-2 in a women’s soccer match on Saturday at Saint Louis Field.
Smith’s goal in the 93rd minute gave Hawaii Pacific (1-2-1) its only lead of the game. Chaminade (1-1) got a pair of goals from Randi Fontes, who scored in the seventh and and 70th minutes. Both goals gave Chaminade leads, but HPU would rally each time.
Western Washington slips past HPU men
No. 24 Western Washington got a goal off a corner kick in the 85th minute, allowing the host Vikings (4-2) to escape with a 1-0 win over the Sharks (1-2) in a men’s soccer match.
HPU outshot Western Washington 19-9, but was unable to convert any of them into goals.

HPU women 11th, men 18th in Riverside
The Hawaii Pacific University women scored 307 points to finish in 11th place, and the men tallied 490 points for 18th place in the 38th annual UC Riverside Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at the UCR Ag Course in Riverside, Calif.
Sophomore Robyn Kaltenbrunn was the top individual finisher for HPU, completing the 5-kilometer women’s race in 18:39.7, good for 30th overall. Rickus Jacobs was the top finisher for the men, completing the 8-kilometer race in 25:14.9 and finishing in 42nd place.
