In her collegiate debut, Kailua’s Malia Nam lost out to an eagle on the final hole of the Annika Intercollegiate, which ended Wednesday in Minnesota.
The USC freshman took second to help the Trojans (843) to a third-place finish behind NCAA runner-up Alabama (28-under 836) and UCLA (838). Nam, a Kaiser graduate, shot rounds of 69-66-69, birdieing six of her last 10 holes to shoot 31 on the back nine. She ended up a shot behind UCLA’s Patty Tavatanakit, who birdied seven straight holes and eagled the last to shoot 63 and finish at 203. The Bruin sophomore shot 28 on the back nine.
Nam’s 12-under score was the second-best in school history in a 54-hole event.
Punahou graduate Allisen Corpuz, a USC junior, tied for 21st at 215 — a shot behind high school teammate Mariel Galdiano, a UCLA junior.
