Honolulu airport ranks near bottom
Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, which is getting a face-lift as part of a statewide airports modernization program, ranks near the bottom among large airports in a satisfaction study of North America airports.
The airport is tied for 22nd out of 25 in the large airport category, according to the J.D. Power 2018 North America Airport Satisfaction Study released Wednesday. John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Calif., ranks first with 815 points and is followed by Dallas Love Field (810) and Portland (Ore.) International Airport (804).
The study measures overall traveler satisfaction with mega, large and medium North America airports by examining six factors (in order of importance): terminal facilities; airport accessibility; security check; baggage claim; check-in/baggage check; and food, beverage and retail.
The report said North American airports have managed to shrug off the potentially disruptive effects of record passenger volumes and massive construction projects to achieve a record high in overall passenger satisfaction — up by 12 points to 761 from last year’s score of 749.
Among mega airports, Las Vegas McCarran International Airport and Orlando International Airport are tied for first with 781 points with Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport third with 775.
In the medium airport category, Buffalo Niagara International Airport is first with 814 points and is followed by Indianapolis International Airport (811) and Fort Myers/Southwest Florida International (810).
