Bill Cosby. Matt Lauer. Harvey Weinstein. Charlie Rose. Les Moonves.
The many, big downfalls due to #MeToo can seem far removed from Hawaii, out here in the middle of the Pacific.
But in the case of Moonves — the CBS honcho ousted due to multiple allegations of sexual harassment — there’s one positive link. CBS’s new interim chairman of the board, now tasked with moving the network forward, is Richard Parsons, 70, the former chairman of Time Warner and Citicorp, and an alumnus of the University of Hawaii-Manoa. Bring back the King’s Guard in Waikiki
Redevelopment plans are moving forward — after years of various delays — on a 1-acre site in Waikiki that includes King’s Village. Hilton Grand Vacations Inc. has announced it will erect a 32-story tower, with about 190 timeshare-ready units.
While there’s no expectation that the new vision will preserve King’s Village’s old-timey 19th century Victorian feel — complete with cobblestone strolling paths — it would be nice to see a nod to the King’s Guard, which performed daily ceremonies at the shopping area for more than 40 years. Outfitted in 19th-century uniforms, the drill team conducted its final lowering-of-the-flag ceremony and rifle-twirling exhibition about four years ago.
