The First Hawaiian Bank Foundation has donated $20,000 to Hawaii Pacific University that will make it possible for 13 HPU freshmen to pay for their textbooks and fees. All of these students are Hawaii high school graduates and some are the first in their family to attend a four-year university. The students also were recipients of HPU’s Holomua Commitment, the university’s promise to meet 100 percent unmet tuition need for all local first-year students.
The university recently announced its plan to move into newly leased space at Waterfront Plaza over the next two years, fulfilling its plan of building a centralized urban campus. When complete, HPU will be the largest private occupant of real estate, occupying 350,000 square feet in downtown Honolulu.
