Celebrate this pumpkins-are-everywhere season by either carving one with your family or just checking out all the fun creations at the 9th annual Pumpkin Carving Festival, Oct. 27 at Windward Mall.
“This year’s highlight is the Meadow Gold Dairies KULA Carving Challenge,” said festival founder Billie Gabriel. “There are (students from) 12 high schools who will carve five pumpkins and create a display in 2-1/2 hours (from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.).”
The theme of the challenge is Music Legends, which is sure to result in a lot of whimsical entries.
“One of our judges is ‘American Idol’ finalist from season 12, DeAndre Brackensick,” Gabriel said. “Brackensick will perform at the festival along with other entertainers from the group Brunch.”
Families can also carve and take home their own award-worthy pumpkins by purchasing a family package, starting at $35 for a pumpkin, carving kit, gloves and stencils.
Proceeds will benefit Keiki O Ka ‘Aina Family Learning Centers to enhance both its existing and new child development programs. The centers’ programs include native Hawaiian cultural enrichment activities, family literacy, and wellness programs.
