Maui’s Eli Hanneman and Kauai’s Keala Tomoda-Bannert were victorious at the HYSDO Pro Junior at Turtle Bay Resort on Tuesday at Haleiwa.
Hanneman took the men’s final with a 15.90 score, while Barron Mamiya finished second with a 15.65. Third place went to Wyatt McHale (14.95), while Finn McGill took fourth (11.05).
On the women’s side, Tomoda-Bannert won the event with a 14.25 score, edging runner-up Gabriela Bryan’s 13.25. Luana Coelho Silva finished in third with a 9.50 and fourth place went to Leila Riccobuano (8.40).
For their runner-up finishes, Bryan and Mamiya earned the Regional Junior Champion title and a $1,000 travel award from event sponsor Hawaii Youth Surfing Development Organization.
Chaminade soccer falls twice
Michael Oakson netted the only goal as Concordia University-Irvine (5-8 overall, 3-3 PacWest Conference) defeated Chaminade 1-0 in a men’s soccer match on Tuesday at Saint Louis Field.
The Silverswords saw their two-match winning streak come to an end. Freshman midfielder Noah Mokulehua led Chaminade with three shots, including two on goal.
Next up for Chaminade is senior day against Point Loma, set for noon Saturday at Saint Louis.

Marianna Maldonado and Cienah Reed each scored for Concordia University-Irvine (5-6-1, 3-3). Chaminade (1-7-1, 0-5-1) prepares for its senior day, against Point Loma on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Hawaii Hilo soccer shut out
Three second-half goals powered Biola to a 4-0 win over Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday at Kamehameha-Hawaii in Keaau. The Eagles (6-6-1, 4-2) outshot the Vulcans (3-8, 2-4) 21-2, including a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Vulcans continue their homestand as they host Hawaii Pacific this Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
