Police were looking for three young men who robbed a Kalihi store Friday night, the latest in a series of violent crimes in the area that has prompted leaders to call a community meeting.
At about 11:30 p.m., the men, including one armed with an unspecified “dangerous instrument,” demanded money and store property from the employees, said police, who released few details about the holdup.
The suspects fled with cash and property.
State Rep. John Mizuno and other community members have called a “town hall” meeting for 5:45 p.m. Monday at Kapalama Elementary School to discuss public safety concerns in Kalihi.
Participants include the Honolulu Police Department, Adult Friends for Youth, Farrington High School administrators, officials involved with public housing and the homeless, business and community leaders, and elected officials.
There will be brief presentations followed by a question-and-answer period “with the goal of developing an action plan to address criminal activity,” according to a meeting announcement.
