Twenty-nine Hawaii manufacturing companies have been selected to share $900,000 from a state grant program that helps offset investments that help the businesses become globally competitive.
The Hawaii Technology Development Corp., a state agency, announced the award total from its Manufacturing Assistance Program on Wednesday.
The 29 companies were selected from 51 applicants. Of the awardees, six previously have received grants from the program, HTDC said.
Under the program, companies can receive up to 20 percent reimbursement on qualified expenses up to $100,000. HTDC said the 29 companies are investing more than $6 million in their businesses. Qualified expenses can include equipment, training, energy efficiency and feasibility studies.
Robbie Melton, executive director and CEO of the agency, said in a statement that the grants support high-wage job creation and help put Hawaii on the map as an innovator for manufacturing.
