Duration of hotel workers’ strike surpasses 1990 walkout

    Workers at Marriott-managed hotels continued their march through Waikiki Thursday. Strikers are seeking higher wages and better benefits. The average Local 5 housekeeper makes $22 an hour. It's been estimated that a worker must make more than $35 an hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment.

    Local 5 union workers picketed at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Waikiki Beach on Thursday in retaliation for the non-union hotel supplying employees who were willing to work as strikebreakers at the striking hotels.
