Ride-hailing companies Uber and Lyft both said they will offer discounted rides to the polls in Hawaii today.
Lyft said it is offering passengers 50 percent off any standard ride to a polling location as part of its “Get Out the Vote” promotion. The discount is available via a promo code in the Lyft app for one-way rides to polls in its service areas on Kauai, Oahu, Maui and Hawaii island.
Uber said voters can get $10 off a single ride to vote or drop off their ballots wherever its service is available in Hawaii. The discount is part of an “Uber Drives the Vote” initiative using technology to help Americans get to the polls on Election Day and to improve access to voting for people who cite transportation barriers as a reason for not voting.
Uber riders would enter the promotional code VOTE2018 in the most updated version of its app and request a ride using its polling place locator.
“In past elections, people have cited transportation as one of the top reasons why they didn’t vote,” said Rob Mora, market manager for Lyft Hawaii, in a news release. “At Lyft, our objective is to improve lives by connecting people and their communities through quality transportation. Every voice is important, and we want everyone in Hawaii to be able to exercise their right to vote.”

>> Jason Jakovac, a PGA-certified member, has been appointed as head golf professional. He joined Hoakalei in 2013 and served as a golf shop assistant and was later promoted to assistant golf professional. Prior to moving to Hawaii, Jakovac was an assistant golf professional at Vintner’s Golf Club in Napa Valley, Calif.
>> Trisha Griffin has been appointed as the club’s membership and marketing manager. She previously led the photography department at Disney’s Aulani resort for four years. Prior to that, Griffin was Hoakalei Country Club’s assistant membership and marketing manager.
