Aloha Petroleum Ltd., owner of the Dunkin’ (formerly Dunkin’ Donuts) franchise in Hawaii, has opened 11 outlets over the past 18 months.
The aggressive expansion was the reason the local gas station and convenience store operator was named the 2017 Dunkin’ Developer of the Year by Dunkin’ Brands Group Inc., the parent company of Dunkin’ and Baskin-Robbins.
Dunkin’ Donuts made its return to Hawaii in July 2017 with doughnuts, coffee and breakfast sandwiches at 3270 Ualena St. near Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. The store was the first for Dunkin’ in Hawaii since a previous Hawaii franchisee for the Massachusetts-based chain closed more than a decade ago.
Aloha Petroleum made a deal to open 15 Dunkin’ stores statewide within eight years under a franchise agreement but already has opened two stand-alone stores with drive-thrus, as well as a “non-traditional” location at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Pearlridge Center. It also sells its products in seven Aloha Island Mart stores on Oahu.
The annual award is given to franchisees that do the best job in building the brand and expanding.
