Jennie from the girl idol group BlackPink released her first solo song, “Solo,” Monday, and it has garnered nearly 50 million YouTube hits.
It’s unusual for a band member to release a solo only a few years after its debut; BlackPink made its debut in August 2016. But Jennie has proved it can be done with the single’s success.
Born Jan. 16, 1996, in Seoul, South Korea, Jennie Kim joined the YG Entertainment group and is one of the lead vocalists for BlackPink. Jennie lived in New Zealand from 2006 to 2010 to learn English. In 2010, she moved back to South Korea, successfully auditioned for YG and started her training. She’s made a few cameo appearances on several music videos before BlackPink’s debut in 2016.
