Honolulu police have identified a 27-year-old man as a suspect in the assault of MMA fighter Rachael Ostovich early Sunday morning at a Waianae home.
The UFC flyweight, who is a Waianae resident, was taken to the hospital and treated for head injuries after the 2 a.m. assault Sunday, police said.
The Honolulu Police Department said the two were arguing before the assault.
TMZ, which first reported the incident, said HPD had opened a felony domestic violence investigation.
Ostovich’s manager said she was released Monday from the hospital after being treated for a broken eye socket, ESPN reported, and may have suffered other injuries, according to MMA Fighting.
The Moanalua High School alumna is married to MMA fighter Arnold Berdon, also 27.
She is scheduled to fight Paige VanZant on Jan. 18 at a UFC event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Ostovich has a 4-4 overall record and a 1-1 UFC record.
The 125-pound Ostorov won by submission her first UFC fight, beating Karine Gevorgyan in a UFC Fight Night event on Dec. 1.
She lost at a July 6 televised UFC event to Montana De La Rosa in the third round of The Ultimate Fighter Finale flyweight bout in Las Vegas.
She won her first professional bout at Aloha Stadium in 2014 in the co-main event of a locally run X-1 mixed martial arts fight.
Following that win, she fought four times in the Invicta Fighting Championships, an all-women’s organization.
