Celebrate the spirit of the season at Windward Community College’s Hokulani Imaginarium with its two shows, “Star of Bethlehem: The Magi’s Story” and “Season of Light.”
“I would encourage families to attend these holiday shows as they are visually beautiful and it is something out of the typical holiday movie fare,” said Dineene O’Connor, Hokulani Imaginarum manager.
“Star of Bethlehem: The Magi’s Story” explores some of the astronomical possibilities for the star that guided the wise men to Bethlehem. The show reminds viewers that whether the star was a supernatural beacon, natural phenomenon or an allegorical sign, ultimately its message of hope is far more important than its mysterious nature.
“Season of Light” is about winter, the darkest and coldest time of year. The show explains why we have seasons and traces the origins of many of the world’s most enduring customs — from Christmas trees to the Hanukkah menorah, Santa to the Star of Bethlehem.
The 84-seat Imaginarium is a planetarium and multimedia facility under a 40-foot dome. Each seat in the theater has an interactive control panel so audience members can participate in certain programs.
“The (holiday) shows also include a live sky segment that points out the constellations that can be seen in the sky on the night of the performance,” O’Connor said.
