The Hawaii Bowl ended a four-year run without a title sponsor by rebranding itself as the SoFi Hawaii Bowl, it was announced on Friday.
“SoFi” is a registered trademark of Social Finance, Inc., which is listed as a seven-year-old online personal finance company headquartered in San Francisco.
The title sponsorship agreement for the postseason college football game is for two years, said the bowl’s executive director, Daryl Garvin. He declined to say how much the sponsorship is worth.
It is the third title sponsorship in the bowl’s 17 years of operation. ConAgra Foods was the original title sponsor in 2002 and was replaced by Sheraton Hotels from 2003 to 2013.
The Dec. 22 game will match Hawaii (8-5) of the Mountain West and Louisiana Tech (7-5) of Conference USA. A formal announcement of the pending matchup will come on Sunday during the bowl selection show.
