Local Korean-American amateur golfer Peter Jung will make his PGA debut next month at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Jung, 16 and a sophomore at Maryknoll School, has been golfing since age 8, when his father, Sung Yup Jung, introduced him to the game. Jung clinched the Nov. 19 amateur qualifying event at Waialae Country Club, shooting a 72 with two bogeys on the front nine and birdieing both par-5’s in the back nine.
Michelle Wie was 14 when she played in the Sony Open, making her PGA debut in 2004, entering the tournament with a sponsor exemption.
Jung will be the first local male Korean-American amateur to play in the tournament. Peter Jung, as Koreans would say, “fighting!”

“The Hymn of Death”

Based on a true story, “Hymn of Death” revisits a tragic love story between an actress and opera singer, Yoon Sim-duk, and Kim Woo-jin, a brilliant man of theater. They meet in Japan as students during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Sim-duk is revered as the first popular soprano in Korea with her song, “The Hymn of Death.”

Sim-duk grows fond of Woo-jin as he shares his personal stories with her. Her heart races when she and fellow performers are invited to Woo-jin’s house. Woo-jin is torn — under pressure from his father, who wants him to continue the family business, and his passion for the world of theater.

Ji-hoon asks Hye-soo to give their marriage a try, but for real this time. Hye-soo pushes Ji-hoon away, asking when they will finalize the divorce. Realizing her condition is worsening, Hye-soo decides to get treatment for Eun-sung’s sake.

Eun-sung and Hye-soo move out of Ji-hoon’s place, leaving him brokenhearted. Ji-hoon learns Hye-soo is gravely ill. Hye-soo tells Ji-hoon that he should meet a nice woman.
