Kamehameha junior Kysen Terukina, who is No. 1 in the Hawaii Prep World boys wrestling pound-for-pound rankings, has jumped into the top 10 in the nation at 120 pounds.
In the latest FloWrestling rankings released on Christmas Day, Terukina moved up three spots from No. 12 to No. 9 in the country.
There are three seniors, three juniors and two freshmen ranked ahead of him.
Terukina added a second Officials crown to his resume last weekend, winning at 126 pounds with a victory over ‘Iolani’s Brady Hoshino in a rematch of the 2018 state final at 120 pounds. Terukina won the decision 10-2, making up for his loss at Officials as a sophomore.
“I just always had that memory of me getting pinned (at last year’s Officials),” Terukina said after the match. “It always helps me remind myself to stay in good position, never take anybody lightly and just go in and give my best effort.”
Terukina is the only boys wrestler from Hawaii listed in the FloWrestling rankings.
