A 34-year-old Hilo man and a 27-year-old Hilo woman made their initial court appearance Monday in South Kohala in connection with a Jan. 7 robbery.
Aaron Melim was charged with one count of second-degree robbery, one count of second-degree assault and one count of being an accomplice to unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle. His bail was set at $45,000. Ryhan Rickman was charged with one count of being an accomplice to robbery in the second degree, one count of being an accomplice to assault in the second degree and one count of being an accomplice to unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle. Her bail was set at $9,000.
On Jan. 7 patrol officers responded to a report of a man with injuries to his face lying at the side of a road. He told officers two men and a woman assaulted him according to Big Island Police, and took belongings from his vehicle at around 5:30 a.m. near the Puako Boat Ramp.
Melim and Rickman were taken into custody as suspects Thursday, and detectives later recovered items belonging to the victim in a vehicle used by the pair.
Anyone with information on the second male suspect, whose identity and physical description are unknown, is asked to contact police at 960-3118.
