The Honolulu Star-Advertiser is expanding its line of expositions and trade fairs through a new events division, Star Events.
Its first official event will be the the Hawaii Hotel & Restaurant Show, the official trade show of the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association (HLTA) and the Hawaii Restaurant Association (HRA).
“With this new addition to the Star-Advertiser’s line of annual expo and fair products, our team is able to use valuable experience to provide professionals with the knowledge they need to compete locally, nationally and internationally,” said Dennis Francis, president and publisher of the Star-Advertiser. “This show is an all-inclusive resource that brings the best of Hawaii and the Pacific Rim together. We are also pleased to announce that a portion of event proceeds will go to the HLTA and HRA student scholarship funds.”
Gerald Shintaku has joined the Star-Advertiser as events manager of the Star Events division. Shintaku was formerly at Kraft Foods in sales, marketing and leadership positions on the mainland as well as in Hawaii. Most recently he was president and CEO of the nonprofit Hawaii Foodbank.

Mufi Hannemann, president and CEO of HLTA, said, “All three organizations are committed to making this event the premier hospitality trade show in the state at our new venue, the Hawai‘i Convention Center.”
Tom Jones, incoming chairman of the HRA and president of REI Food Services LLC, added, “The event will present new and unique opportunities for vendors and guests such as educational seminars by industry experts, live demonstrations and the latest trends in technology.”
The Star-Advertiser for the past several years has held trade fairs, on Oahu and the Big Island, and homebuyers fairs.

Rehab Hospital of the Pacific has announced the following new members of its team:
>> Erin Sykes is the new infection preventionist/nurse educator. Prior to joining the hospital, Sykes served as chief nurse for Hospice Hawaii, director of clinical operations for Heartland Hospice, director of Quality Hospice of Michigan and a registered nurse in the surgical intensive care unit at Detroit Medical Center.

>> Alan Fentriss is the bank’s newest vice president, residential loan manager. He has been a loan officer for more than 25 years. Fentriss has extensive lending experience as well as a background in the CPA industry.
