Earlier this month the USGA shined a light on Hawaii golf while celebrating its 125th anniversary. The national organization’s salute to players in paradise went by the numbers:
>> 78 (golf courses in the state);
>> 15 (USGA champions from Hawaii);
>> 13 (Michelle Wie’s age in 2003 when she won the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links);
>> 6 (number of Hawaii golfers who have played for U.S. in Curtis Cup — Lori Castillo, Mariel Galdiano, Kimberly Kim, Kyung Kim, Stephanie Kono and Michelle Wie);
>> 6 again (number of USGA Championships we have hosted).
The organization also noted Charles and Randy Barenaba were one of two sets of brothers to both win U.S. Amateur Public Links titles, and spoke to golf broadcaster Mark Rolfing and Hawaii State Junior Golf Association President and co-founder Mary Bea Porter-King.
