Through Sunday, Zigu is offering a winter mizutaki-style hot pot special typically enjoyed during the winter months in Japan’s Fukuoka prefecture, when friends and family gather for warmth and camaraderie.
The restaurant’s Hawaii version starts with a creamy chicken paitan broth, into which diners add Manoa romaine, tofu, Big Island hearts of palm, warabi and Hamakua mushrooms, plus kale.
Cost is $30 for two. Extra ingredients that may be purchased separately include more chicken ($12), kale udon ($9.50) or egg and rice ($7.50), to enjoy any remaining broth as zosui, or rice soup.
Zigu is at 413 Seaside Ave. in Waikiki. Call 212-9252.
