Hawaii Prep’s drive for six in a row is still alive.
Unseeded Ka Makani defeated second-seeded Kauai 3-0 in the Division II semifinals of The Queen’s Medical Center/HHSAA Girls Soccer State Championships on Friday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Tonight’s final will be an all-Big Island rematch of last year’s championship, when Hawaii Prep defeated Kamehameha-Hawaii 3-2.
The circumstances this year will be similar to a year ago, too, with the Warriors coming in as the BIIF champions and No. 1 seed. Hawaii Prep pulled through to capture its fifth straight title in 2018 and is now looking for No. 6 under coach Stephen Perry.
Bella Police, Emi Higgins and Malia Brost scored for Ka Makani (16-2-1) in Friday’s victory.
The KIF champion Red Raiders fell to 13-1.
Kamehameha-Hawaii 2, Kapaa 0
In Friday’s other D-II semifinal, the Warriors (13-4) from the Big Island got back to the big game with goals by Chenoa Frederick and Nanea Wong Yuen.
The loss dropped the match’s other Warriors — the KIF runners-up — to 8-5-1.
Kamehameha-Hawaii, which won a D-II state crown in 2008, has fallen to Hawaii Prep in the D-II state title game in two of the past three years.
