Hazardous chemicals hamper construction at University of Hawaii site

    Demolition of Henke Hall, one of the oldest buildings on the University of Hawaii-Manoa campus, was started, but construction of the Life Sciences building to be built on the site has been halted since higher-than-expected levels of a termite pesticide were found.

Higher-than-expected levels of the chemical chlordane in the soil beneath the former Henke Hall have delayed construction of the new Life Sciences building at the University of Hawaii at Manoa by nearly a year, and raised the cost of construction by nearly $4 million. Read more
