Hawaii Pacific’s Jordan Curry was named the PacWest Conference softball pitcher of the week on Monday for her performance during the weekend at the Desert Stinger Tournament in Las Vegas.
The senior from Farmington, N.M., held No. 23 UC San Diego to one unearned run in a 3-1 win on Friday to open the season. She did not allow an earned run through the weekend.

The junior from Boise, Idaho, tallied nine hits in a 5-0 series sweep over the Yellowjackets. He hit .450 with four doubles and four RBIs.
HPU swept to end tournament in Las Vegas
The Hawaii Pacific softball team was swept Monday by Montana State Billings, 6-2 and 12-3, in a makeup doubleheader in Las Vegas.
In the first game, the Yellowjackets (4-1) scored five runs in the second inning.
The Sharks (1-3) responded with a pair of runs in the top of the third. They loaded the bases in the seventh but were denied when Sierra Dias lined a pitch that was caught for the final out.
Alyssa Etheridge allowed one earned run and two hits for the Yellowjackets. Jordan Curry threw four innings and allowed six earned runs to take the loss for the Sharks.
In the second game, the Sharks were held to three runs by Maddy Lincoln, who got the complete-game win.
The Yellowjackets scored 12 runs on 11 hits and scored in every inning except the top of the fifth.
The Sharks head to Utah to play Fort Lewis on Thursday.
HPU’s MacKenzie, Baum earn honors
Hawaii Pacific earned a pair of PacWest awards in women’s basketball on Monday.
Breanna Mackenzie was named player of the week and Amy Baum was named the freshman of the week.
Mackenzie, a senior out of Melbourne, Australia, averaged 16 points, six rebounds and 2.5 steals in the Sharks’ wins against No. 25 Azusa Pacific and Biola last week.
Baum, another native of Melbourne, picked up her fourth freshman of the week award. She averaged six points, five rebounds and 4.5 assists last week.
The Sharks lead the PacWest and will face Dominican on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Blaisdell Arena.
HPU women, Chaminade men win
The Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team (16-5, 14-1 PacWest) won its ninth in a row, routing Chaminade 83-47 on Monday at Blaisdell Arena.
Michaella Dean led the Silverswords (4-14, 3-11 PacWest) with a season-high 12 points, followed by Hunter Liftee, who totaled 10.
HPU’s Breanna MacKenzie led the Sharks with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The Silverswords (16-4, 10-4 PacWest) were led by Grant Dressler’s 25 points and five rebounds.
Jonathan Janssen’s 22 points and eight rebounds led the Sharks (5-15, 2-13 PacWest).
UHH women take down Biola
The University of Hawaii Hilo women’s basketball team ran off to an 18-0 lead en route to a 77-56 victory over Biola at the Civic Auditorium on the Big Island on Monday.
Allie Navarette led the Vulcans (6-12, 3-11 PacWest) with 23 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Alyssa Movchan’s 19 points.
Tatum Brimley led the Eagles (11-10, 7-8 PacWest) with 22 points and seven rebounds. Jazz Benn added 20 points.
The Vulcans will host Academy of Art on Friday at 5 p.m.
Kauai’s Zietz earns first perfect 10
Kauai’s Sebastian Zietz earned the first perfect 10 during the Volcom Pipe Pro on Monday.
Maui’s Billy Kemper scored a 9.80 to advance, while 15-year-old Brodi Sale from the Big Island upset fellow Hawaii surfers Seth Moniz, Beji Brand and Koa Smith. Joshua Moniz and Keanu Asing will both move on to the fifth round.
