The Hawaii Pacific and Hawaii Hilo softball teams split doubleheaders Thursday at the Dixie State Courtyard Classic in St. George, Utah.
In the opener for HPU (2-5), Tiana Cantero-Kawelo batted 3-for-3 with two runs and Cieana Curran and Emilee Leonard each drove in two runs in a 6-3 victory over Fort Lewis. In the second game, Leipua Kaui and Noel Saunders each scored two runs in an 8-7 loss to Central Washington.
In Hilo’s opener, Rayla Jacobs-Kea went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Kimberly Olivas drove in two runs in a 7-6 win over Montana State-Billings. The Vulcans (2-3) managed only four hits in a 3-1 loss to Colorado State-Pueblo.
UHH’s Kinoshita tied for third at Waikoloa
Hawaii Hilo’s Jared Kinoshita fired a 6-under-par 66 and is in a four-way tie for third after Thursday’s first round of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament at Waikoloa Kings’ Golf Course.
Oklahoma State’s Zach Bauchou leads at 63 and Oregon’s Ryan Gronlund is second at 65.
Hawaii’s top golfer, Trevor Hirata, is tied for 41st at 71.
The Vulcans are tied for 12th at 3-under 285 and the Rainbow Warriors are last at 297 in the 18-team field.
Oklahoma State leads at 267.
