Riding the bus over the landslide-challenged Pali Highway has become more complicated lately, but it’s good to see the city making efforts to help riders stay on schedule.
Some routes, previously diverted onto the H-3 freeway and other alternatives, will use the Pali contraflow lanes during the limited hours they are open. That should cut some commute times.
But a more-flexible bus system means riders need to be more alert for schedule changes. Keep up at thebus.org.
A slow transition for Windward Oahu hospital
Things appear to be fairly well ordered between the buyer — Adventist Health Castle, formerly Castle Medical Center — and the seller — Hawaii Pacific University. Adventist plans to build a new medical campus at HPU’s 132 acres are long-range, and HPU isn’t quite ready to vacate, anyway.
So while Windward Oahu looks forward to expanded health-care capacity that residents need and want, status quo can be a comfortable outcome for now. The current hospital’s future? Unknown. Could long-term care be a possibility? Or, like Queen’s Medical Center, two hospitals, east and west? More to come.
