Linfield (Ore.) sophomore Michelle Uyeda was named the Northwest Conference student-athlete of the week in women’s tennis on Monday.
Uyeda, a 2017 Kealakehe alumna, swept her singles matches in wins over Cal Tech and Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday and split her doubles matches as the Wildcats went 1-1.
Uyeda competes at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles for the Wildcats, who are 5-2 overall this season.
Uyeda is 5-1 at No. 1 singles this season, with her only loss coming in three sets against Hawaii Hilo.
BASEBALL
>> Cole Cabrera, Punahou ’17: The Cal Poly starting left fielder finished 3-for-8 with three walks, three runs scored and an RBI in three losses to California over the weekend.
>> Pikai Winchester, ‘Iolani ’15: The Grand Canyon senior designated hitter finished 4-for-14 with a double, a home run and four RBIs as the ’Lopes lost two of three to nationally ranked TCU over the weekend.
>> Codie Paiva, Kamehameha ’15: The Loyola Marymount senior right-hander and No. 1 starter in the rotation earned his first win of the season, striking out eight in 5 2/3 shutout innings with no walks and six hits allowed in a 3-1 win over Saint Louis on Friday.
>> Wyatt Young, Mid-Pacific ’18: The Pepperdine freshman had two hits and stole a base in a 6-2 loss to Vanderbilt on Sunday. Young has started at shortstop and batted in the leadoff spot in all six games for the Waves this season and is hitting .269 (7-for-26).
>> Noah Sills, Mid-Pacific ’15: The Lamar senior left-hander, who is slotted No. 2 in the rotation, picked up a no-decision, allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts in six innings of an 8-6 victory over Prairie View on Saturday in the Cardinal Classic.
>> Keith Torres, Saint Louis ’17: The Sacramento State sophomore shortstop went 3-for-12 with a triple, two walks, two runs and an RBI as the Hornets lost two of three against Pacific over the weekend.
>> Nick Tabura, Kapaa ’14: The Sacramento State junior left-hander struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief in his first outing of the season on Sunday in a 6-2 loss to Pacific.
>> Jacob Maekawa, Mid-Pacific ’16: The San Diego State junior infielder finished 4-for-7 with a walk, a stolen base and an RBI to help the Aztecs go 2-1 in the Tony Gwynn Legacy with wins over Utah and Kansas State over the weekend.
>> Pono Anderson, Saint Louis ’15: The Texas-Arlington senior right-hander got a no decision in an 8-6 loss to Wichita State after giving up three runs on five hits in 5 2⁄3 innings with one walk and six strikeouts.
>> Ashkhon Kuhaulua, Kamehameha ’07: The William Jessup senior right-hander tossed a seven-inning complete game, allowing two runs on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts to improve to 3-0 for the season in a 3-2 victory over Westmont on Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader.
>> Kawai Takemura, Kamehameha ’17: The William Jessup starting shortstop went 8-for-15 batting out of the leadoff spot with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI to help the Warriors split a four-game series with Westmont over the weekend.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
>> Hugh Hogland, ‘Iolani ’17: The Portland sophomore averaged 7.0 points per game off the bench in two losses last week, including a 10-point performance on 4-for-6 shooting with three rebounds in a 63-52 loss to San Diego on Thursday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
>> Chanelle Molina, Konawaena ’16: The Washington State sophomore tallied 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 75-67 loss to Utah on Sunday and 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal in a 72-61 loss to Colorado on Friday. Molina is averaging 16.1 points and 5.6 rebounds this season.
>> Fieme’a Hafoka, Lahainaluna ’16: The San Jose State junior guard had seven points, five rebounds, five assists and a steal in a 73-60 win over Air Force on Saturday. Hafoka, who leads the Spartans in minutes played, is second on the team in scoring (8.6 ppg), assists (2.7 apg) and steals (34).
>> Maegen Martin, Maryknoll ’15: The Whitman (Wash.) senior scored a season-high 28 points in a 66-52 loss to George Fox in the championship game of the Northwest Conference tournament on Saturday. Martin shot 11-for-18 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free-throw line and added four rebounds, an assist and a steal for the Blues (20-7), who did not receive an at-large berth into the NCAA Division III tournament. Martin led the NWC in field-goal percentage, shooting 55.7 percent in league games.
>> Camy Aguinaldo, ‘Iolani ’17: The Whitworth (Wash.) sophomore guard closed her season with 14 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and three assists in a 61-56 win over Puget Sound on Feb. 16. She finished her season averaging 13.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game and was selected to the All-NWC second team last week.
>> Liana Tanaka, Maui ’15: The Pacific (Ore.) senior guard earned honorable mention honors on the All-NWC team last week. Tanaka played in 24 games and averaged 13.8 points per game, ranking 10th in the league. She led the conference averaging 36.5 minutes played and was fifth in assists at 3.5 per game. She scored in double figures in 20 of 24 games with a season-high 21 points against Lewis & Clark on Jan. 4.
WOMEN’S GOLF
>> Mariel Galdiano, Punahou ’16: The UCLA junior closed with back-to-back rounds of 3-over 75 to finish in a tie for third place at 8 over at the Bruin Wave Invitational on Tuesday in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Galdiano moved up seven spots on the leaderboard in the final round. Her lone birdie came on the par-5 fifth.
>> Claire Choi, Punahou ’18: The Santa Clara freshman closed with a 1-under 71 to finish a career-best fifth place at even par at The Gold Rush on Tuesday in Seal Beach, Calif. Her previous best finish was a tie for 19th.
>> Rose Huang, ‘Iolani ’15: The Brigham Young senior sandwiched a 3-over 75 between even-par rounds of 72 to finish in a tie for ninth place at 3 over at The Gold Rush.
>> Allysha Mae Mateo, Maryknoll ’18: The BYU freshman closed with her best round, a 1-over 73, to finish The Gold Rush in a tie for 44th place at 12 over.
>> Mari Nishiura, Mililani ’16: The Oregon State sophomore led the Beavers in the first tournament of the spring with a tie for 11th place at 3-under 213 in the Westbrook Spring Invitational on Monday in Peoria, Ariz. Nishiura opened with a 2-over 74 and closed with rounds of 69 and 70.
>> Kaylee Shimizu, Baldwin ’15: The Utah Valley junior shot a 1-under 71 during Sunday’s final round to move up four spots and finish in eighth place at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix. Shimizu shot rounds of 75 and 73 before closing with her best collegiate round to earn the top finish of her three-year career.
SOFTBALL
>> Cydney Curran, Campbell ’16: The Cal State Bakersfield junior shortstop went 5-for-14 with four triples, six runs scored and an RBI as the Roadrunners went 1-4 in the Silicon Valley Classic over the weekend. Curran has five triples for the season in just 12 games to lead the nation in Division I and has already tied Bakersfield’s single-season record.
>> Chris Hipa, Kamehameha ’15: The Cal State Bakersfield second baseman finished 4-for-15 with a walk and two runs scored in the Silicon Valley Classic.
>> Kamalani Dung, Kamehameha ’15: The California senior right-hander struck out 12 in a two-hit shutout with one walk allowed in a 1-0 win over Duke on Friday. The Bears finished 3-2 in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, with Dung earning all three wins. She went 3-1 over the weekend, pitching twice out of the bullpen. As a starter, she was 2-0 and allowed one run on six hits in 14 innings with three walks and 16 strikeouts. She pitched 22 innings total, allowing seven runs on 12 hits with seven walks and 23 strikeouts.
>> Dallas Millwood, Kamehameha ’18: The Nevada freshman first baseman belted her first career home run — a three-run shot in the second inning of a 10-0 win over Pacific (Calif.) on Saturday. Millwood finished 4-for-11 with a double, a homer and five RBIs to help the Wolf Pack go 3-1 in the Libby Matson Tournament.
>> Ashley Salausa, Leilehua ’17: The Nevada sophomore outfielder had two hits, two walks, four runs scored and three RBIs in the Libby Matson Tournament.
>> Nawai Kaupe, Maui ’17: The Washington sophomore outfielder blasted a solo homer in the top of the seventh inning to give the Huskies a 1-0 win over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
>> Maya Yoshiura, Mililani ’17: The Cal State Stanislaus third baseman went 5-for-11 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored as the Warriors were swept in a four-game series by nationally ranked UC San Diego over the weekend.
MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
>> Isaiah Payne, Seabury Hall ’18: The Seattle freshman ran a personal-best 22.00 seconds in the men’s 200-meter dash to finish in seventh place in the finals at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
>> Jacques Hebert, Punahou ’14: The Seattle senior finished in seventh place in the men’s 1-mile run with a time of 4:24.65 at the WAC Championships.
>> Connor Lehl, Punahou ’17: The Santa Clara sophomore finished second in the men’s 800-meter run out of seven runners with a time of 2:03.54 at the West Coast Invitational on Saturday.
WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
>> Noelani Obermeyer, Punahou ’16: The Santa Clara junior finished in fifth place out of 27 runners in the women’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:27.33 at the West Coast Invitational on Saturday.
>> Tommi Hintnaus, Kaiser ’17: The Arizona State sophomore finished in 10th place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.94 meters (12 feet, 11 inches) at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Friday.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
>> Kolby Kahahawai, Kamehameha ’15: The Redlands (Calif.) senior scored 16 goals in five matches to help the Bulldogs finish 4-1 in the Macalester College Invite over the weekend. Kahahawai scored multiple goals in every match and had seven, including a second-quarter hat trick, in a 13-2 win over Carthage on Saturday.
>> Courtney Overland, ‘Iolani ’15: The Macalester College senior goalkeeper made 38 saves in four matches to help the Scots go 1-3 in the Macalester College Invite.
