In 1942 Richard Perkins, above, was sent to Hawaii as an Army tech sergeant. His son Dana inherited the hundreds of wartime photos the soldier took and is now trying to reconnect the pictures with the people in them.

“I recognized her right away,” said Kauai resident Beatrice Lemke-Newman, who contacted Dana Perkins when she spotted her mother, Marie Carol Lemke, singing on stage in a long dress with several band members next to her. Lemke joined the USO Pacific Theater in 1942.
