The Chaminade men’s basketball team saw its season end with a 77-75 loss to Seattle Pacific on Friday in the first round of the NCAA West Regional in San Diego.
The Falcons (22-6) won in the final seconds on a driving layup by Gavin Long, who had a team-high 21 points.
The Silverswords (23-8), who led by as many as 13 points midway through the second half, got 26 points from senior Grant Dressler. Junior Tyler Cartaino contributed 16 points and nine rebounds.
Chaminade ends the season with the program record for most wins in the Division II era.
HPU women’s hoops season over
The Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team lost 76-69 to No. 3 Alaska Anchorage in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball tournament in La Jolla, Calif., on Friday.
The Sharks (23-9) were led by Roosevelt alum Starr Rivera, who posted 19 points and three assists. Sophomore Alysha Marcucci added 16 points.
Forward Hannah Wandersee led the Seawolves with 22 points and six rebounds.
Wahine softball shut out by Tide
No. 4 Alabama remained unbeaten with its 30th win in a row in shutting out the University of Hawaii 9-0 on the third day of the Rainbow Wahine Classic at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium on Friday.
The Wahine (18-8) only had four hits, with junior Callee Heen going 2-for-2.
The Tide hit four homers and scored five runs in the third to blow it open.
UH will continue play today against Niagara at noon and Alabama at 2 p.m.
HPU softball splits doubleheader
The Hawaii Pacific softball team split its doubleheader on Friday against No. 1 Concordia Irvine at the Eagles’ home field.
In the first game, the Sharks were held to two hits in falling 4-0 against winning pitcher Callie Nunes.
In the second game, the Sharks (20-16, 13-8 PacWest) beat the Eagles (17-3, 8-2) 4-3. The Sharks scored the winning run in the top of the seventh on a bunt by Sierra Dias.
>> The Chaminade softball team split its doubleheader against Dominican on Friday at Central Oahu Regional Park, losing the first game 6-3 and winning the second 5-1.
Malia Ka‘akimaka-Moisa homered in each game for the Silverswords. She scored three runs in the first game and two in the second. Madelyn Stockslager got the win in the second game for the ’Swords (9-10, 6-6 PacWest).
The teams play again today at noon at the same location
HPU baseball falls to Azusa Pacific
The Hawaii Pacific baseball team dropped its game against Azusa Pacific 6-2 on Friday in Azusa, Calif.
The Sharks (16-12, 3-9 PacWest) scored their runs on a homer by Micah Layosa in the second inning and an RBI single by Matt Tsutomi in the fifth. HPU will finish the series today with a doubleheader.
