The Maunalua Bay boat ramp will be closed this week from Monday to Friday as contractors remove the condemned pier there.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation said the ramp may reopen earlier than Friday if contractor JS Int’l Inc. can finish the work ahead of schedule. In the meantime, boaters must arrange to launch elsewhere.
The cost of removal of the collapsed pier is $24,910.
Siren tests planned in East Oahu
Don’t be alarmed when warning sirens sound Wednesday in parts of Aina Haina and Hawaii Kai — it’s just a test.
The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency and the Honolulu Department of Emergency Management will test sirens between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Kalama Valley Park and Wailupe Valley Neighborhood Park.
The sirens will sound for 30-second to 3-minute intervals with tests to include short blasts known as “burps.”
The sirens were installed as part of HI-EMA’s Outdoor Warning Siren Program. Other sirens will be updated in the future and new ones installed at various locations across the state.
