University of Hawaii junior Phoebe Hines was named an All-American after placing fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle event Saturday at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas.
Hines, of Parrearra, Queensland, Australia, finished in 15:50.13 on the fourth and final day of the championships.
Hines is the first UH women’s swimmer to earn All-American status since Franziska Weidner managed it in the 100 breaststroke in 2006.
Hawaii water polo eases past CSUN
Maxine Schaap scored five goals and Femke Aan and Carmen Baringo each added three as the No. 5 University of Hawaii water polo team beat No. 21 Cal State Northridge 15-2 on Saturday at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
Bridget Layburn made four saves and Molly DiLalla had two for the Rainbow Wahine (13-4, 2-0 Big West).
The Matadors fell to 13-14, 0-2.
HPU sweeps Academy of Art in baseball
The Hawaii Pacific baseball team swept Academy of Art by scores of 13-1 and 5-4 on Saturday at Hans L’Orange Park.
In the first game, Evan Spitzer allowed five hits over seven innings and Cole Mayeshiro pitched two scoreless innings for HPU. Tanner Tokunaga, Sean Coffey and Christian had three hits apiece for HPU.
In the second game, Jordan Mopas hit a walk-off homer to left field with two outs in the seventh inning.
The Sharks improved to 18-14, 5-11 PacWest, while the Urban Knights fell to 11-9, 3-6.

In the first game, Rustin Ho and Chris Aubort had run-scoring singles in the seventh inning for the Vulcans.
In the second game, the Cougars took the lead with a two-run sixth inning. RJ Romo had an RBI single in the fifth for Hilo.
The Vulcans fell to 10-15, 8-10 PacWest, while the Cougars improved to 20-9, 10-2.
Hilo takes 2 from Azusa Pacific
The Hawaii Hilo softball team swept Azusa Pacific by scores of 14-7 and 11-2 on Saturday in Azusa, Calif.
In the first game, the Vulcans scored four runs each in the sixth and seventh innings. Isabelle Mejia batted 4-for-5 with a double, home run and six RBIs and Brinell Kaleikini went 3-for-4 with four runs for Hilo.
In the second game, Billi Derleth pitched a five-hitter, Skylar Thomas batted 2-for-3 with four RBIs and Kiarra Lincoln drove in three runs for the Vulcans, who scored six in the first and five in the seventh.
The Vulcans improved to 20-8, 15-5 PacWest, while the Cougars fell to 12-12, 9-7.

In the first game, the Silverswords had just two hits, but drew six walks.
In the second game, Makena Kealoha batted 2-for-2 for Chaminade in game that was shortened to five innings.
The Silverswords dropped to 10-19, 7-15 PacWest, while the Eagles improved to 23-3, 11-2.
