Wow, that was fast. The first NFL preseason game in Hawaii in 43 years was a sell-out, quicker than you could say L.A. Rams v. Dallas Cowboys. But neither of these teams are the first love for Hawaii, as it happens.
According to NFL Ticket Exchange, Hawaii fans, often aligned with California, have bought San Francisco 49ers tickets more than any other.
Perhaps the Rams have pull, now that they’re back in L.A. At the price of these tickets, it will be interesting to see if any loyalties change.
Good news, sad news from zoo
The Honolulu Zoo has announced that “Oringo,” a 14-year-old male cheetah, was euthanized on Thursday, due to health complications associated with aging. Cheetahs have an average life expectancy of 10 to 12 years in the wild and up to 20 in captivity. Oringo had been a resident at the Waikiki zoo for 12 years.
On a happier note, the zoo recently announced the birth of a bongo antelope. The now month-old baby and her mother, “Topanga,” are on exhibit. Zoo staff have yet to name for the female calf. Listed as “near threatened” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the bongos are found in eastern, western and Central Africa.
