Hawaii’s senior citizens seem to have embraced medical marijuana — in greater numbers than the national average, based on one report.
Marijuana Patients Organization (MPO), a nonprofit advocacy group, has collected information from states that release such figures. It found that nationally, the largest age cohort among cannabis patients are ages 40-55, at 49 percent.
That differs from Hawaii, where those ages 56-65 are the largest group. A cultural artifact of laid-back Hawaii? Could be.
Hawaiian Air, Southwest square off
With Hawaii’s dominant airline bracing for rivalry with a big mainland-based carrier, travelers can expect to see more flights in and out of the islands and competitive pricing. On Tuesday, Hawaiian Airlines began daily nonstop Maui-Sacramento service, getting a jump on a route Southwest Airlines is expected to announce soon.
In this case, the carriers are slated to trace the same flight path but have different approaches in vying for fares. Hawaiian’s fuel-efficient A321neo aircraft has 16 first class, 44 extra-comfort economy and 129 main cabin economy seats. Southwest’s Boeing 737-800, meanwhile, is filled with 175-economy seats.
