Hanna Hellvig, a 6-foot outside hitter from Stockholm, Sweden, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Hawaii women’s volleyball team, the fifth and final freshman committed to play for the Rainbow Wahine in the fall.
The six-rotation player rounds out the freshman class that includes Kamehameha’s Braelyn Akana, a 6-foot hitter; Amber Igiede, a 6-3 middle from Louisiana; Riley Wagoner, a 6-foot hitter from Ohio; and Tiffany Westerberg, a 6-3 middle from Canada. Hawaii also brought in two transfers from Oregon who were with the team this spring in Kamehameha alumna Kyra Hanawahine, a 5-2 libero, and 6-2 hitter Jolie Rasmussen from California.
“We are excited with all that Hanna will bring to our team,” Wahine coach Robyn Ah Mow said. “Her volleyball IQ is off the charts and she possesses a solid skill set plus the height and physicality that we were looking for in pin hitters. We believe she will be a perfect fit for our team.”
Hellvig has quite a bit of international playing experience, including 17 matches with the Swedish senior national team. She also is an accomplished beach and snow volleyball player, winning the Swedish beach tour tournament as well as the Swedish Snow Championship.
