State Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement officers confiscated about 1,000 feet of suspected illegal lay net in Keehi Lagoon on Friday.
A DOCARE officer on routine patrol along the shoreline near La Mariana Sailing Club Restaurant at about 6:30 a.m. saw a man tending to several large bags filled with what appeared to be lay nets, according to a news release from the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
A team of officers inspected seven bags and found four contained about 100 undersized fish, including papio, kala and moi, as well as live coral.
The nets and illegal take were seized and approximately 10 citations were issue to Gary Shigematsu, 47, of Salt Lake.
To report suspicious activity, call 643-DLNR (3567).
