Planning started more than a decade ago, but the state’s proposed Hawaiian music and dance center has yet to take tangible shape. And this week state lawmakers agreed to scrap its designated location at the Hawaii Convention Center’s rooftop, in part, because the cost for the vision had more than tripled to $98 million. Given the sticker shock, that’s prudent. Bishop Museum is now being eyed as grounds for the center, which could be a good fit as visitors there are drawn by its deeply rooted cultural and natural histories.
