The final round of the David Ishii Foundation/HHSAA Girls Golf State Championship tees off this morning at the Waikoloa King’s Course with Waiakea ahead of the pack in the team standings and three players tied for the individual lead.
Waiakea sophomore Kailey Oki was among the three leaders who carded rounds of even-par 72 on Tuesday to lead the Warriors to the top of the team standings with a total of 7-over 223. Sophomore Lacey Uchida finished with a round of 75 to end the first round tied for seventh, with freshman Kiersten Saludares tied for ninth at 76.
Mid-Pacific enters today’s play in second place at 232, with Punahou another four shots back.
Oki will tee off in the final group at 9 a.m. with co-leaders Leia Chung of Leilehua and Tagrilani Luafalealo of Moanalua. Chung, a freshman, finished one shot ahead of Luafalealo to win the OIA title on April 23 at Turtle Bay’s Fazio Course.
Chung birdied the par-3 third and 11th holes to offset two bogeys in her round. Luafalealo also birdied two par-3s on the front side to make the turn at 2 under. She moved back to even with bogeys on Nos. 12 and 13 before closing with five consecutive pars. Oki was 1 under through 15 holes and closed the round with her third bogey on the back nine to finish at even.
Baldwin sophomore Lana Calibuso-Kwee is one shot behind the leaders, with Maui senior Reese Guzman and Mid-Pacific’s Myah McDonald, the ILH champion, at 74. Junior Allison Takamiya led Punahou at 75.
