Emily Maglio returned to Hawaii to finish her degree and one last beach volleyball season. The senior will leave this week with her B.S. in Animal Sciences and as the most decorated player in UH volleyball history.
Maglio added her fifth All-America honor on Wednesday when she was named as one of six honorable mentions on the AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball All-American teams. The Canadian national was a two-time first-team beach All-American (2016, 2018) and was recognized twice during her indoor career (second team, 2017; honorable mention, 2016). She also was the first UH player to earn beach and indoor All-America honors in the same school year (2016-17).
Joining Maglio as a beach honorable mention was junior Amy Ozee, her partner for 31 matches, all but one at Flight 1. The two were on other pairs for the first eight matches, Maglio with Hi’ilawe Huddleston (4-4) and Ozee with Morgan Martin (4-4).
Maglio-Ozee were 21-7 with their last three contests at last week’s NCAA tournament unfinished after the clinching point came while Flight 1 was still playing. The Rainbow Wahine went 2-2 at the national event, finishing fourth for the second time in four years; the SandBows were third in 2017 and ’18.
It was the first All-America honor for Ozee, a junior out of Seabury Hall. Earlier this week, she and Maglio were named to the All-Big West first team.
Maglio finishes her four-year beach career second in all-time wins (112) and is one of five players with over 100 victories. Ozee ranks 10th in wins with 72.
Eight pairs were named to the All-America first team, led by four-time selections Megan and Nicole McNamara of UCLA. The twins from Canada helped the Bruins defend their NCAA title on Sunday when sweeping USC 3-0.
