More than five years after completing his University of Hawaii football career, Sean Schroeder is still making an impact at Aloha Stadium.

The 808 Passing Academy’s fourth clinic — 2019 Under the Lights Camp — is set for Saturday, June 1, at Aloha Stadium. It is open to high school quarterbacks, receivers, running backs and anyone interested in learning about the aerial game. Each registered participant receives a shirt and instruction from former college players and quarterback guru Vinny Passas, who has coached Marcus Mariota and Tua Tagovailoa. Greg Salas, UH’s career receiving leader, also will coach.

There is no admission fee for registered participants.

Schroeder, who was UH’s starting quarterback in 2012 and ‘13, and sponsors are picking up all costs, including the stadium’s rental fees. Schroeder helped found the academy in 2016.

“It’s a small part of trying to give back to that community and the next generation as much as I can,” Schroeder said of covering the expenses. “As long as I’m involved, it’ll be free for the kids.”

Schroeder transferred to UH after earning a bachelor’s degree from Duke in 2012.

“Hawaii is a special place to me,” Schroeder said. “I spent two years (at UH), but I think they were formidable years for me. I look back fondly. I think not only did I grow up and mature at that time, but Hawaii left an imprint on me. The people, the culture, that aloha spirit stayed with me. I want to stay involved with the community as much as I can, even if it’s only a couple days a year coming back.”

The camp will be held earlier than previous years because Schroeder is participating in Stanford’s graduation ceremony on June 15. Schroeder, who earned a master’s at UH, is receiving an MBA from Stanford.

On this camp, Schroeder said, “I hope it’ll make for a good experience for the campers. I know it’s a great experience for the coaches. We have a blast doing it. We might get more out of it than the kids do.”
