Parking 20 feet from a crosswalk and 30 feet from a stop sign are regulations no one seems to know.
If we had the manpower to cite all these violators, with the money generated we wouldn’t have to raise the motor vehicle tax to improve our roads. Also, the city would have money for the rail if the state would share from its coffers.
Painting the curb red 20 feet on either side of the crosswalk to discourage violators would allow us to see the child or person in a wheelchair trying to cross, well before reaching the crosswalk.
Why not start with crosswalks in the vicinity of schools, creating a safer crossing experience for our keiki and kupuna? If our government can’t do it, perhaps volunteers and parents might provide the manpower.
In one month, we could paint the curbs for all the crosswalks. Imagine the lives we could save!
