A new theater project will allow survivors of domestic violence to share their stories anonymously and inform a larger audience about an important topic that is often overlooked.
Sponsored by the PlayBuilders of Hawai‘i Theater Company and the Domestic Violence Action Center, “The Bursting Bubbles Project” will use these personal stories to create a community collaborative play.
“We are asking survivors to share their stories with us because we believe that no one else is more qualified to teach us what can be done to stop abuse than a survivor,” PlayBuilders founder Terri Madden said in a statement. “Most of us live in a bubble, unaware of what others may be struggling with. As a result, we miss what might be more effective in helping those in need.”
Auditions for the finished play will take place in early September, and the play will tour local churches and other venues in time for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.
