Carissa Moore finishes second to Fitzgibbons at Oi Rio Pro surf final

Australia’s Sally Fitzgibbons edged Hawaii’s Carissa Moore in the Oi Rio Pro final Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Fitzgibbons, who finished with a two-wave total of 14.64, also passed countrywoman Stephanie Gilmore, Moore and Courtney Conlogue of Santa Ana, Calif., on the Jeep Leaderboard, the World Surf League’s world tour standings. Moore’s two-wave total was 12.57, and by making the final, she improved her WSL standing from No. 3 to No. 2.

In the men’s final, Brazil’s Filipe Toledo downed South Africa’s Jordy Smith, 18.04 to 8.43.

Toledo jumped three spots to No. 3 in the rankings. He is behind No. 1 John John Florence of Haleiwa, who placed fifth, and No. 2 Kolohe Andino of San Clemente, Calif.

Crabb finishes second at AVP Seattle Open

Punahou alum Taylor Crabb and teammate Jake Gibb lost in the championship match of the AVP Seattle Open on Sunday to third-seeded Jeremy Casebeer and Chaim Schalk, 21-19, 21-18.

Earlier in the day, Crabb/Gibb defeated Billy Allen and Stafford Slick in the semifinal round, 21-18, 21-17.

Karissa Cook (2014 University of Hawaii SandBows All-American), seeded fourth with teammate Jace Pardon, lost in the semifinals to the second-seeded duo of Emily Day and Betsi Flint, 21-19, 19-21, 15-11.
