Despite coming off postseason appearances, season ticket sales for both University of Hawaii football and Rainbow Wahine volleyball are lagging slightly behind last year at the same point.
Rainbow Wahine sales are down about 10% and football has shown a 1% dip, according to UH figures.
As of June 10, 2018, UH said it had sold 3,295 volleyball season tickets compared to 2,972 for the same date this year. Football sold 11,173 by June 10, 2018, and had 11,035 this year.
Football and Rainbow Wahine volleyball have traditionally been two of the athletic department’s biggest ticket-revenue drivers.
The Rainbow Warriors went 8-6 for their first winning season in seven years, which concluded with an appearance in the Hawaii Bowl.
The season opener is Aug. 24 against Arizona. Athletic director David Matlin said, “We are excited for the 2019 home football season that features quality Pac-12 opponents, Army and the top teams in the Mountain West Conference. It will be an entertaining brand of football as the Warriors plan to build upon their 2018 bowl season.”
The Rainbow Wahine were 18-9 and competed in a 26th consecutive NCAA tournament. They have three transfers from Pac-12 teams joining the team for 2019 and a home schedule that includes UCLA and Washington.
Matlin said, “(Coach) Robyn Ah Mow’s recruiting class has us poised for a Big West championship and to continue our NCAA tournament streak.”
The season opens with the Aug. 30 Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic.
