Athletes Tim DeBoom and Michellie Jones, as well as contributors Kenneth Gasque and Jan War are the four inductees for the 2019 Ironman Hall of Fame Class, as announced Tuesday.
DeBoom is a two-time Ironman World Champion (2001, ’02) and is the last American to win the title. In 2015, he was inducted into the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame.
Jones has won the Ironman World Championship twice (1992, ’93) and is the first Australian woman to win the event. In 1996, she won the XTERRA Triathlon World Championship. In the 2000 Olympic Games, she won the silver medal in the triathlon.
Gasque has won the event four times and is also the founder of the Ironman Lanzarote triathlon. He began serving as race director for Ironman Lanzarote in 1992 and to this day remains as honorary race director.
War is one of the leading foundational members of the Ironman, having been a volunteer for almost 40 years. He also has been the swim director for the Ironman World Championship for 32 years.
The ceremony will be held Oct. 9 during race week of the 2019 Vega Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona.
Chaminade men’s hoops add transfer
Silverswords men’s basketball coach Eric Bovaird announced Tuesday the signing of Kendall Small for the upcoming season.
Small, a 6-foot guard from Lakewood, Calif., joins Chaminade after spending the last three seasons at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif.
Last season for the Tigers, Small averaged 2.2 points and 1.1 in 30 games, while his 1.3 assists was second on the team. He also played for Oregon in the 2015-16 season and played in all 36 games, averaging 1.7 points and 0.6 assists as the Ducks advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. He sat out the 2016-17 season due to the mandatory NCAA transfer rule. He does not have to sit out this season because he is transferring down to D-II from D-I.
Small has a year of eligibility remaining.
