Since 2005, Hawaii baseball teams have won three Little League World Series titles, the most by any state in that time span. In each case, the teams were from Oahu. This time around, the first Maui team to earn a trip to the big show in Williamsport, Pa., is a contender for the title.
Both Central East Maui (West Region) and South Riding, Va. (Southeast Region), are undefeated in the 16-team tournament. They’ll meet on the diamond today, 1:30 p.m. Hawaii time, to decide which team will represent the U.S. against the top international team.
Maui no ka oi, guys.
The state by the numbers in Data Book
The Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism has released its stats-packed 2018 edition of the “State of Hawaii Data Book,” dbedt.hawaii.gov/economic/databook, featuring hundreds of facts and figures on topics including population, education, environment, economics, energy, business enterprises, government, tourism and transportation. Among the tidbits: The median age for Hawaii’s residents was 39.2 in July 2018. And in 2018, the U.S. Postal Service delivered 527 million pieces of mail in Hawaii — a drop of about 10 million pieces from the 2017 delivery.
