The potential for an emotional letdown didn’t faze the Mililani Trojans.
One week after a big win over Nevada’s No. 2 team, Liberty, Hawaii’s No. 2 team rolled over Waianae 50-6 on Saturday night at Raymond Torii Field.
The Trojans defense had five sacks, with defensive end Tristen Townes involved in four of the takedowns of Waianae quarterbacks.
“Honestly, my team, they fed me. My other teammates, they did all their jobs. We did all our jobs together and did what we had to do. We came out strong and come out with the ‘W.’ All glory to God,” said Townes, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound senior.
Brendyn Agbayani passed for 235 yards and three touchdowns. Two of them were to wide receiver Kanoa Gibson, who finished with six catches for 109 yards. The touchdowns were for 10 and 47 yards.

“We had to make adjustments because most of their corners bailed, so we had to do hitch routes, short routes,” Gibson said. “We’ve seen it before. Brendyn has been completing his balls. The line blocked for him, too.”
Agbayani completed 17 of his 26 attempts, and threw just one interception.
Waianae finished with 271 yards of total offense. Mililani racked up 453 total yards of offense.
Waianae opened the game with momentum, driving to the Mililani 24. Kaai Tambaoan-Kaeo then burst up the middle and got close to the goal line but fumbled, and Mililani recovered in the end zone for a touchback.
On the ensuing series, Mililani went three-and-out, but punter/linebacker Wynden Ho‘ohuli executed a fake and passed to Asher Pilanca, who cut back against the grain to the left pylon for a 75-yard touchdown.
The visiting Trojans then caught fire, scoring on their next four possessions before halftime. Jasiah Alcover picked up 18 yards on consecutive carries to spark the next drive, then scored on a 1-yard wildcat keeper to give Mililani a 13-0 lead with 2:59 left in the opening quarter.
Mililani’s defense sacked Sheldon McLeod on the next series, recovering the ball at the Waianae 38. Two plays later, Agbayani found Kai Banks for a 23-yard TD, and Mililani led 20-0 with 32 seconds left in the first quarter.
Agbayani’s 10-yard toss to Gibson in the end zone pushed the lead to 27 before Waianae finally got on the scoreboard. McLeod fired four completions in four plays, and his 28-yard strike to Nainoa Machado made it 27-6 with 6:22 to go in the first half.
After Kaulana Navares made a 29-yard field goal, Waianae kept its next drive alive with a fake punt run by Saege Ayala. However, that drive stalled at the Mililani 34.
A final drive before the half was stifled by a sack by Townes and Seth Ebesugawa.
Mililani will meet Kamehameha next Saturday as part of an Open Division tripleheader at Aloha Stadium.
Waianae will meet Punahou and Saint Louis will play Kahuku in the same tripleheader.
