Family members identified a 20-year-old man who died in Sunday’s shooting at the Ala Moana Center parking lot as Alan C. Jennings of Waianae.
The deadly shooting occurred at approximately
1:10 a.m. on the Diamond Head side of the shopping center’s parking lot near Lucky Strike Social Honolulu.
Police said the victim was found with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken in critical condition to a hospital and died.
Approximately 20 minutes after the shooting, police located the alleged gunman, a 23-year-old man, about a block away from the shopping center near First Hawaiian Bank on Kapiolani Boulevard.
Officers arrested him on suspicion of second-degree murder. The motive of the shooting is unclear at this time. The investigation is
ongoing.
Representatives of Ala Moana Center could not be reached for comment.
Family members are grief-stricken over Jennings’ death. “Words cannot explain the pain we feel,” said his father, Kana Jennings. “The kid was a beautiful kid.”
A 2017 Mililani High School graduate, Jennings worked at Y. Hata &Co. Ltd., a food service distribution company.
He enjoyed fishing, diving and spending time with his family, his father said. “He loved his family so much.”
