It’s fish-or-cut-bait time. The city is looking for supporters of maintaining the Haiku Stairs, the controversial Koolau ridge-hiking attraction, to come up with concepts for how it could be repaired and managed.
Now the Friends of Haiku Stairs believes it has a plan to make the facility accessible without burdening the neighboring community — and cost-neutral, besides. Submittals are due by 4 p.m. Feb. 28. It seems like a tall order, but if the Friends think they can fill it, now’s their chance.
Gabbard stays on the campaign trail
After Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary results left U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard lagging far behind the 2020 presidential candidate front-runners, she addressed supporters, thanking them for their efforts and saying simply: “It’s time.”
Apparently, it was time for her to leave the state, where she had staged more than 100 town hall gatherings, to touch down in Charleston, S.C. That state’s Democratic primary is slated for Feb. 29.
Given Gabbard’s low 3% finish in New Hampshire, it’s also time for her to consider ending this longshot bid for the White House, and return to giving due attention to her day job: serving Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District constituents.
