Korean cinema took the global stage at the 92nd Academy Awards Feb. 9 when Bong Joon Ho was awarded best director and his film “Parasite” made history as the first foreign film to win best picture. Director Bong and Han Jin Won took home the award for best original screenplay; the film was also awarded best international feature film.
When accepting the award for best foreign language film at the Golden Globes, Bong said, “Once you overcome the 1-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.”
Congratulations to Director Bong and cheers to South Korean cinema.
